Shoplifting
One of the most common criminal complaints people are accused of in Municipal Court is shoplifting. It is a common crime. However, as minor and routine as it sounds the complaint often is a mistake and made by an overzealous store security guard who does not have sufficient evidence to actually convict the person. Some people take the position that shoplifting is minor offense and the charge has no real consequences.
This cavalier attitude is a mistake for people who are concerned about their record. Criminal background checks are now routine for prospective employers and a shoplifting conviction concerns honesty and can be a red flag preventing an employment offer.
